My Grandma's The Reseller: A Garage Sale 30 Years in the Making

Move over, Depop girls, my Grandma is the original reseller. While her items are a little more vintage (think red glass, cast iron, and porcelain shoes), her annual garage sale is going on 30 years strong! I decided to commemorate her annual sale with a fun shirt design as a surprise for her!

This summer was the Fifth Annual Final Garage Sale of my Grandmother’s. Every year, as far back as I can remember, we would set up shop at her place for a long and often very humid weekend. The past five years, when we pack up what is left, she always says it was her last one. And like clockwork, the following summer she changes her mind and opens her garage once again. 

To commemorate the occasion, my family began joking about getting t-shirts made. Then I thought, why not? Designing them on Procreate and type font on Adobe Photoshop was a lot of fun. I made sure to include her cat, Buddy (previously referred to as ‘not my’ as he was a stray that she fed for many years). I was also happy to use Print Smith to print the design once it was completed.

My family was all on board, except for one key player, Grandma. We decided to show up one by one and surprise her. When she finally noticed what the shirt said, she was not amused. She finally got into the spirit when I gave her a shirt of her own. 

She deemed the garage sale a success. It is still pending whether there will be a Sixth Annual Final Garage Sale next year.■
